Nice, you just finished writing your latest “Fire” to that “Oh-So-Dope ” beat that inspired you last week, and now its time to “Put it on Wax”. What you need next is a recording studio and engineer to help bring your vision to life. This is where DP can help. We are visionaries as well as musicians. A “professional” session can be quick, painless and cost-effective if all parties do their part adequately, prior to as well as during sessions.

With these tips; not only will you become a better musician, you will  record cleaner and faster vocals and they will also have a more organically fluid sound. You will also seem more professional when showing up to any studio/ studio session ready to “one-take” most (if not all) of your songs primary layers. Leaving the rest of the work in the engineer’s hands to complete.

Here’s some secret advice from a professional:

Studio sessions are priced by the hour. Never book a session if your not ready to record.

Always show up on time odds are your engineer was preparing for your arrival an hour before you show up and is equally excited to help create great art. He too is a fan of good music or possibly a fellow musician and most importantly; if you go platinum, he gets a plaque for his wall as well.

Always have your beats ready, if you need production for your session this should be brought to the attention of the engineer ahead of time. Listening to a folder of hundreds of beats can be a daunting task. At 3-4 minutes each with slow intros, samples, hooks, bridges, drops and other gaps in between, you could end up being there awhile.

Always rehearse your music in advanced and out loud. This closer connects your breathing and delivery to the vocals of your track and works out much better than reciting it to yourself for days.

Mixing and Mastering

Just when you thought you were done working on that track. Well.., you are but the engineer isn’t. Its time to take it to the next level. Consider mixing and mastering like a Quality Check or an Audit of your music. What are you “checking”? To certify that your music has that industry sound necessary to sit alongside any of the music currently being played on radio and television. The engineer (After extensive rest) revisits your track with fresh ears and mindset. The objective: cleaning-up the track utilizing many industry standards as well individual secrets and tactics obtained through years of experience. Variations are made and other spices are added. You will definitely hear the difference in briskness, brightness and clarity. You are now Radio ready baby!
